According to the indictment, the shipowner is allegedly accused of participating in a criminal organization, the members of which came from Mytilene, Albania and Turkey. The organization allegedly attempted in 2018 to import approximately 2 tons of cannabis, a large quantity of cocaine 100 kilos and other drug pills and others that are accused of having been imported from Latin America to Greece, and the ship would transport them to an unknown destination.
For his part, the Turkish shipowner states that he is surprised by the existence of the warrant and the indictment, denying the charges against him.
The same position was expressed by the representative of the law firm Koufelos & Associates, Taxiarchis Koufelos, who, speaking to the Lesvos News, claimed that “the indictment is flawed”.
It is worth noting that the Turkish shipowner has recently reactivated in Mytilene. As he claims, if he had committed the offenses attributed to him, he would not have returned to the island, knowing that an arrest warrant was pending against him.
The case is expected to follow the legal path, on Monday it will be brought to the Prosecutor of Appeals, as the other defendants from Mytilene have already been tried in the first instance and are at the Court of Appeals.
It should be noted that we have corrected the quantities according to the official data now available to us, as the quantities that were initially given unofficially are not valid, except for those we mention.
